New York Film Festival Mystery Film Revealed

The New York Film Festival had people guessing all week what would be screened on Monday evening as a secret sneak preview. Now it is known that the film was a work-in-progress screening of HUGO, the newest film from New York’s own Martin Scorsese. The Festival revealed late last week that it would feature a film by a master filmmaker, and speculation covered everything from Clint Eastwood’s J EDGAR to Stephen Daldry’s EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY CLOSE. Scorsese hasn’t shown an unfinished film like this before and the NYFF hasn’t shown a work-in-progress screening since Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST in 1991. HUGO is Scorsese’s first family and 3D film, with a cast that includes Chloe Grace Moretz, Michael Pitt, Jude Law, Christopher Lee, Emily Mortimer, Sacha Baron Cohen, Ben Kingsley, Ray Winstone, Michael Stuhlbarg and Asa Butterfield in the title role. Scorsese and Johnny Depp have produced with longtime Scorsese producer Graham King. Paramount releases HUGO on November 23.
