Written by: FFT Webmaster | May 4th, 2012

The 2012 Sarasota Film Festival (www.sarasotafilmfestival.com) praised the winners of its jury and audience award winners at the historic Sarasota Opera House in downtown Sarasota. ELENA, a sensitive and dramatic Russian film about the tension in a contemporary marriage, took home this year’s Narrative Feature Jury prize. BIG BOYS GONE BANANAS!* by Swedish director Fredrik Gertten was the Documentary Jury Prize winner.  Two special jury prizes were awarded; in the Narrative category, the Greek feature ALPS, directed by Giorgos Lanthimos, took home a Special Jury Prize and RADIO UNNAMEABLE was awarded a special jury prize in the Documentary Feature section. The Festival’s juried award for Independent Vision went to THE UNSPEAKABLE ACT, directed by Dan Sallitt.  The Best In World Cinema Audience Award went to the French film POLISSE. Audience Awards were given to MISSED CONNECTIONS by director Martin Snyder (Best Narrative Feature) and ETHEL, directed by Rory Kennedy (Best Documentary). “We are so proud of all our filmmakers and films,” said Festival Director Tom Hall. “The goal of our festival is to connect the world of cinema with our community and this year’s film program is testament to the power of movies to inspire and move us.”
