The Jan Vrijman Fund is a lifeline for international documentary filmmakers in developing countries who need additional support to realize their projects. The Fund is administered by IDFA, the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam, which presents its annual showcase of the best in non-fiction film every November. Nineteen  projects from 13 countries have been selected from a pool of over 400 projects hat were considered. Recipients will share a total of € 179,600 for script development, production and workshops. The Fund selected four projects in the script and project development categories and ten projects received funds for production and post-production. Four workshops and documentary festivals received support, including the first ever documentary festival in Afghanistan and a documentary festival in Sierrra Leone.

For the first time, projects from Afghanistan and Cambodia are among those being supported. Films that have received support from the Fund in the past few years will undoubtedly be part of the lineup of the next IDFA, which runs from November 16 to 27 in Amsterdam. The Jan Vrijman Fund is supported by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hivos, Media Mundus and Stichting Doen.
