Written by: FFT Webmaster | February 6th, 2012

KLIP, a controversial and sexually explicit Serbian film directed by 28 year old Maja Milos, won two of the top 8 prizes at the 2012 edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, which concluded this past weekend. KLIP is the highly charged story of a 16-year-old girl who escapes her troubled home life through alcohol, drugs and sex, much of which is captured on a mobile phone. The film won the Hivos Tiger Award for Best Film, which includes a cash prize of 15,000 Euros, as well as the KNF Award from Dutch film journalists. Additional Hivos Tiger Awards, given to first or second time filmmakers, were awarded to THURSDAY TILL SUNDAY (Dominga Sotomayor, Chile/Netherlands) and EGG AND STONE (Huang Ji, China). FIPRESCI, the international association of film critics, awarded its International Critics Prize to NEIGHBORING SOUNDS by Brazilian director Kleber Mendonça Filho. The Dioraphte Award, which includes a cash prize of 10,000 Euros, was given to Iranian director Mohammd Rasoulof for GOODBYE.. This prize went to the highest-scoring film in the audience poll among the 17 festival films made with support from the Hubert Bals Fund, the Festival’s heralded development fund for films made in countries that have limited local means.
