The 36th edition of the Montreal World Film Festival, which will be held from August 23 to September 3, salutes the memory of Claude Miller, a great French auteur who died earlier this year. Miller had graced the Festival on seven occasions, including when his film GARDE A VUE won the Festival’s Grand Prize of the Americas in 1981. In 2007, his film UN SECRET again won the Festival’s top award, while two years later, his film I’M GLAD MY MOTHER IS ALIVE, which Miller co-directed with his son Nathan, won the prize for Best Script. The Festival will screen his final film, the biopic THERESE DESQUEYROUX. “It is with profound sadness that I learned of the death of Claude Miller, whom we had hosted on numerous occasions,” said MWFF president Serge Losique. “Montreal always had a warm welcome for his films and he reciprocated by presiding over the Festival’s international jury. I would like to extend my sincerest condolences to his family. Claude was a personal friend as well as being a great friend of the Festival and our city.”
