The Los Angeles Film Festival is presenting a solid program of music films during its 18th edition that begins this weekend. From early punk to classic rock ‘n’ roll, soulful blues and the poppiest of pop, there’s something this year for everyone. There’s also a series of exciting live events at the Grammy Museum including live concerts. Among the musical highlights are BLUES, BALLADS AND BLUEGRASS, a 1961 concert film shot by famed music archivist Alan Lomax in his West Village apartment; A BAND CALLED DEATH, a rockumentary about the Hackney Brothers and their punk band Death; BIG EASY EXPRESS, a musical road show tour featuring the music of bluegrass bands Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show; DIRTY DANCING DANCE-A-LONG, an audience participation special event set to the classic Patrick Swayze/Jennifer Grey musical dramedy; and THUNDERDOME, an eclectic mix of music videos, shorts, and other unexpected genre gems.
