Hot Docs Breaks Attendance Records

Written by: FFT Webmaster | May 11th, 2011

Hot Docs, which just ended its run this past weekend in Toronto, has cemented its reputation as the world’s biggest film festival exclusively devoted to documentary film. The Festival saw its attendance reach a record 151,000 (an 11 per cent rise over last year) over the course of 11 days. Nearly 200 films were screened, with a parallel series of industry events, including a conference and market for documentary professionals and Docs for Schools, an educational initiative to bring awareness of non-fiction films to local youth. SOMEWHERE BETWEEN by American filmmaker Linda Goldstein Knowlton won the Audience Award for her film about four Chinese-born adoptees who come of age in two parallel cultures. The winner of the Filmmakers Award, chosen by attending filmmakers, was THE EDGE OF RUSSIA by Michael Marczak.
