Bertrand Tavernier’s Film Workshops In Montreal

Written by: FFT Webmaster | August 24th, 2011

Celebrated French director Bertrand Tavernier offered two stimulating workshops this past weekend at the Montreal World Film Festival for Festival guests and the general public. The director presented six forgotten or under-appreciated films that have shaped his personal cinema aesthetic. From American cinema vaults, Tavernier presented the “lost noirs” PITFALL (1948) by Andre De Toth, CITY DANGER (1951) by Robert Parrish and THE PROWLER (1951) by Joseph Losey. He also presented a series of forgotten French classics, including DOUCE (1943) by Claude Autant-Lara, L’HEURE DE LA VERITIE by Henri Calef, and LE SUCRE (1978) by Jacques Rouffio. The director, who has been a fixture at this Festival over the years and presented two recent films last year (THE ELECTRIC MIST and THE PRINCESS OF MONTPENSIER) is known not only for his prolific directorial career but in his role as a cinephile and staunch supporter of restoration of French and international cinema.
