Bernardo Bertolucci To Receive Honorary Palme D’Or In Cannes

Written by: FFT Webmaster | April 14th, 2011

For the first time in its 65-year history, the Cannes Film Festival will award its Honorary Palme D’Or during the Opening Ceremonies rather than at the closing Awards Gala. The Honorary Palme D’Or is awarded to a distinctive filmmaker whose work has never received the Festival’s top prize for a film in competition. This year, the iconic Italian filmmaker Bernardo Bertolucci will receive the honor at the Festival’s opening night on May 11, in the presence of Festival Jury President Robert De Niro, who starred in the director’s epic 1900. Past recipients of this special honorary prize include filmmakers Woody Allen (in 2002) and Clint Eastwood (in 2009).
