The laconic Beau Bridges is taking a bow at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival this week to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award and help promote his newest film DON’T FADE AWAY, which made its Southeast Premiere at FLIFF on Sunday evening. “I’ve been to South Florida many times and have even shot some films here”, the 70-year old actor shared with me in the green room at the Cinema Paradiso before going on stage to receive his award. In the film, Bridges co-stars opposite two of Hollywood’s hottest young properties, heartthrob Ryan Kwanten (TRUE BLOOD) and Mischa Barton (THE O.C.) Set in the lush mountain terrain of Asheville, North Carolina, the film tells the tale of a music industry big shot who comes home to North Carolina after getting word that his father (Bridges) is terminally ill. Once there, he falls for an old girlfriend and starts to understand the values of the small town life that he had initially rejected. “I was attracted to the solid story in this film”, Bridges shared. “I don’t necessarily to need to play the lead to find a good part that I think I am right for….and this film was a good fit right when I first read the script.” Bridges was impressed with the acting chops of his two young co-stars and the Smoky Mountains location. “Asheville has got to be the vegan capital of the world”, Bridges enthused. “The incredible chefs at the local restaurants do some serious work with vegetables and it has definitely turned me into a total vegan.” Bridges can next be seen in a supporting role opposite George Clooney in director Alexander Payne’s highly anticipated return to the screen, THE DESCENDANTS.
