An Interracial Take On WUTHERING HEIGHTS
Written by: FFT Webmaster | August 10th, 2011
There have been several film and television adaptations of the classic English novel WUTHERING HEIGHTS by Emily Brontë, but the newest one to hit screens is distinguished because of its interracial cast. The smoldering outsider Heathcliff, played in the past by the likes of Laurence Olivier, Timothy Dalton and Ralph Fiennes, is portrayed by African-English actor James Howson. The film is the latest from the celebrated UK director Andrea Arnold (FISH TANK), and will have its world premiere next month at the Venice International Film Festival. Arnold recently won the Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize for her second film RED ROAD. Aside from newcomer James Howson, the cast also features Kaya Scodelario (SKINS) as the female lead Cathy, alongside Steve Evets, Oliver Milburn and Nicola Burley. Arnold is joined by her long-time creative collaborators, including cinematographer Robbie Ryan and editor Nicolas Chaudeurge. The film is represented internationally by HanWay Films (www.hanwayfilms.com)
