The Tenth Edition of the Rome Independent Film Festival presents the new generation of Italian directors – Among the Jury, Fariborz Kamkari and Cinzia TH Torrini

The Italian film “5 (Cinque)”, from director Francesco Dominedò, has been selected to open the tenth edition of the RIFF AWARDS 2011, which will take place from March 18th to 24th at the Nuovo Cinema Aquila in Rome.

RIFF celebrates its first ten years “of independence” with a schedule particularly attentive to new Italian productions (sort of an ideal homage for the celebration of Italian Unification).  Aside from Dominedó’s film, the schedule includes an additional eight Italian titles (among these: “Nelle fauci di Ubaldo Terzani” from Gabriele Albanesi, “18 anni: il mondo ai miei piedi” by Elisabetta Rocchetti, and Gian Paolo Vallati’s “Cara, ti amo”).

Among the foreign titles in competition are favorites from prestigious international festivals such as: “All That I Love” by Jacek Borcuch, winner of the Audience Award and Best Set Design at the Polish Film Festival as well as the Polish selection for the Best Foreign Film Oscar, and “180°” by Cihan Inan from the Zurich Festival.  Also in competition are “Todo lo que tu quieras” from the award-winning director Achero Mañas, the Swedish film “Dear Alice” by Otham Karim, and the Russian “Siberia — Mon amour” from Slava Ross.

Also, the documentary section of the Festival will this year place particular emphasis on a very important special event.  In addition to the usual international selection of documentary works on topical social issues, the Festival will give creative space to feminist works, following the virtuous example of Women Make Movies, a non-profit, multimedia, multiracial and multicultural arts organization that facilitates the production, promotion, and distribution of independently-created films and videos by or about women.

Throughout RIFF, some 150 films, selected from debut works and European and International Premieres, will uphold the Festival’s status as an important event in the world of independent film.  Additionally, the Festival has planned several, events, workshops and seminars, including: “The Third European Forum of Independent Producers” and their project “Producers on the Move”, the “Giornate romane dell’Audiovisivo e delle telecomunicazioni – A Business with German Firms”, and the Spanish collection of audiovisual works, “D-generación”, organized in collaboration with the Cervantes Institute of Rome.

The International Jury chosen for the RIFF Awards 2011 is composed of producer Gianluca Arcopinto, The Kurdish-Iranian director Fariborz Kamkari (I Fiori di Kirkuk), director Cinzia TH Torrini, the director of the Anilogue International Animation Festival Liszka Tamás, actress Valentina Carnelutti, journalist Salvatore Aloise, director Raffaele Brunetti, founder of the Santa Monica Film Festival Albert “Birdie” de Quay, journalist Maurizio di Rienzo, director Hilmi Etkan, creator of the Kino Project Cristiano Gerbino, organizer of Tofifest of Torun Malek Golonko, director Jesus Garces Lambert, Manifesto film critic Roberto Silvestri, and Sarena Sostegni (Cattleya).
