One of the great iconoclasts of American independent cinema left us May 29th. His first significant acting role was in Rebel Without A Cause(1955) and he was traumatized by James Dean’s sudden death in 1955. His role as director of the countercultural classic Easy Rider(1969)sealed his legendary status as a cool maverick. His performance in David Lynch’s masterpiece Blue Velvet(1986) will always be revered as one of the best ever. He was married five times, had children and amassed one of the world’s greatest collections of modern art. He also served for many years as “artistic director” of the now defunct “Cinevegas Film Festival”. We will miss him. |

What a tragic waste of young talent. News reports say actress Brittany Murphy went into cardiac arrest this morning at age 32.
I always found her performances fresh in both comedies like Clueless, Just Married and Little Black Book,Spun and dramas like 8 Mile, Don't Say A Word, Uptown Girl, and Sin City. She was about to have a career renewal with The Expendables, Shrinking Charlotte, Something Wicked and Abandoned all scheduled for release next year. |

He was best known for his autobiographical “The Basketball Diaries” which was made into the 1995 film of the same name, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. “The Basketball Diaries” was an autobiographical book concerning his life as a teenager in New York City's hard drug scene. |
