“Captain Marvel” – ** OUT OF 4

Writer-directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (“ Half Nelson”) bring back the mid-1990’s with comments ranging  about everything from  computers  to music in this  21st latest iteration  about the 18 billion dollar Marvel Cinematic Universe.   The big breakthrough  in this filmi is that it is the first  to be led by a female superhero without  help from a guy,  either, super or regular, versions. The woman  actress  selected as Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers is Academy Award Winner, 29 year-old ,(“Room.”) Brie Larson She is wonderful!

As Carol Danvers, Larson portrays an Air Force pilot with intergalactic powers.  With assistance from the young Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and an orange cat named Goose the impossible  savior of Earth is attained. This is no easy battle as fighting the shape–shifting.creatures known as Skrulls  is a near impossbility.

The battles rage in CGI as only befits a Marvel property.

While story is not its strong suit it’s impossible to forget the cine-magic imagery.

It will hold over fans until the “The Avengers with “Endgame”.
