47 Meters Down **1/2

What better franchise to bring back from the depths of the ocean than a version of “Jaws”-the first $100 million dollar blockbuster? The Weinstein brothers smell blood on the water and make a fast track summer pic which entertains and is mildly amusing.  To cut to the chase: Sisters Lisa(Mandy Moore) and Kate(Claire Holt) find themselves as shark bait  after a cage diving accident strands them at 47 M below the surface in “bends” territory.

The majority of this film is the girls struggling to survive one calamity after another.  The problem for me is the real  Jaws was directed  masterfully by Steven Speilberg some 42 years ago and is a classic. This version is competent film-making that lacks the element of true surprise or suspense.
