Sony Nabs James Bond Rights in Deal with MGM

Written by: FFT Webmaster | April 15th, 2011

The James Bond franchise, considered the most lucrative in the world, has languished in the past several years as its home studio, the once-legendary Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, has been dealing with financial upheavals, threatening to shut down the lucrative franchise and lose the participation of the latest Bond, actor Daniel Craig. However, it was announced yesterday that Sony Pictures has beat out several suitors, including Paramount and 20th Century Fox, to  co-finance and theatrically market and distribute MGM’s next James Bond film. Sony will release the film, known as BOND 23, on November 9, 2012 throughout the world except for select International territories, where MGM will directly oversee distribution. The two studios said that Sony will also co-finance and distribute BOND 24.
