Dimension Films, the genre production and distribution arm of The Weinstein Company, has announced that its new President will be veteran producer Robert Katz. A former president of production at the Film Department and executive VP of production at the Yari Film Group, Katz arrives as several long-time Weinstein Company executives are leaving, including production president Brad Luff and executive VP production Matthew Stein. Both stepped away with a non-exclusive producing deal with the company which has regained the momentum that it enjoyed in the 1990s as Miramax following this year’s big Oscar showing for THE KING’S SPEECH. Katz has been involved in the production world for two decades, credited with being a prime mover for such acclaimed films as CRASH, THE ILLUSIONIST and THE PAINTED VEIL. Katz will report to Dimension Films chair Bob Weinstein and will work out of the Weinstein Company’s Los Angeles office.
