Zlin Film Festival’s Nod To Creative Advertising

RAINBOW MARBLE International Advertising Festival

International Film Festival for Children And Youth (otherwise known as Film Festival Zlin) has a number of fascinating components to be held during its 50th anniversary celebrations this year aside from its main focus on films for the youth and young adult audiences. Among the most significant of these “sidebar” events is the RAINBOW MARBLE International Advertising Festival, celebrating its 8th anniversary from June 2-3 during the Festival week (May 30 to June 6).

RAINBOW MARBLE is devoted to creative advertising output from agencies and producers from around the world. Aside from the showcase of television and cinema commercials, print advertisements and public service announcements, the event will host a conference of advertising representatives on the theme of social responsibility in the advertising arts. RAINBOW MARBLE differs from other advertising competitions with its unique evaluation not only on the creativity but also on the ethical dimension of advertisements. This is also seen in the composition of the international jury, made up of not just communications professionals, but also representatives of the media, psychologists, academicians and representatives of governmental agencies.

The jury will be chaired by Mike Longhurst  (McCann Ericsson), a member of the executive board of the European Association of Communications Agencies, and includes Johanes Newrkla (BlueTango), former chairman of the Art Director’s Club Europe, and Giovanni Lunghi (University of Udine), a member of the executive board of EFCCE – European Foundation for Commercial Communications Education.

.One of the highlights of this year’s Festival is the advertising conference. The motto for this year’s gathering of media professionals is “Ethics Are What Separate Good Advertisements From Bad Ones, While Creativity Separates The Outstanding Advertisements From The Good Ones”. An integral part of this festival is also a technical conference, which this year will take up the topics of media education, “green marketing”, and political marketing. “Since this year’s Rainbow Marble will take place a week after the Czech Chamber of Deputies elections, one of the conference topics will be the current political campaigns waged by Czech political parties”, pointed out Rainbow Marble’s manager, Nela Fišerová.  The main objective of the conference is to create an international discussion forum for leaders in the corporate and agency marketing fields, as well as engaging teachers, educators and others involved in media education. Leading Czech and world experts will be on hand to offer their unique perspectives on the topics of this year’s conference events.

Aside from a series of high level seminars and conferences, the Festival will also present the nominees and winners of its International Advertising Competition, with a blue ribbon panel of international experts will select the best creative and ethical advertisements from the commercial and non-commercial spheres. The Grand Prix Prize Winner will automatically proceed to the main contest at the Golden Drum festival, one of the world’s greatest advertising contests.

Another special category of the event is Young Marbles, created for students in media fields in the Czech and Slovak Republics respectively. They may enter a proposal for a campaign, which they will elaborate on the given topic. The winner of Young Marbles will also automatically continue to the Golden Drum festival and will receive valuable prizes.

One of the highlights of the two-day event is the Rainbow Day With Advertising, a presentation of the winners of some of the world’s leading advertising competitions, including awards winners at such prestige events as the Golden Drum, the Cannes Lions, the New York Festivals International Advertising Competition and the Clio Awards.

The deadline for this year’s competition has been extended to May 1.
